Lodroe Nyima Charity Foundation

Medical and Medicine Centre

The Purpose of the Project

DSC00079.jpg        In the state of Qinghai Yushu, because of the high altitude of the thousand year history Thrangu Monastery and the Princess Wencheng Monastery, the weather is comparatively severe that lead to a development lag compare to bigger cities. For example, the medical and hygienic conditions are relatively lagging behind; residents have to go the state, county and township to visit doctors. Agricultural zones like villages and societies do not have clinics and hospitals that are up to standard.

Yushu is located in the center of Tibetan plateau. The resources for the Tibetan medicine are rich and they are uncontaminated green resources. These resources have very high economic value and they can be used to benefit the society. Because of lack of venture capital to develop, the development to explore these natural resources is still in a very primitive stage.

Tibetan medicine has a very long history. This field of study has a complete and systematic medical theoretical basis. Their way of making diagnosis is unique. There are numerous types of Tibetan medicine which are very effective in treatment of different disease. Because of the unique culture and its magical effectiveness of Tibetan medicine, wide-spread concern and interest have been aroused and the future of development is broad.

According to the record of the Tibetan residents, there had been a lot of good Tibetan doctors serving in the Thrangu Monastery. Because of the unanimous good comment from the Tibetans, the prestige of the doctors in the Thrangu Monastery and the surrounding area is still very high. For the sake of inheriting the techniques of the Tibetan doctors in Monastery and its long culture, as well as in light of the difficulties the citizens encountered to see a doctor and their high death ratio, our venerable Lodroe Nyima Rinpoche has sent five Lamas to learn western and Tibetan medicines in order to open up clinics in the local area and create conditions for Tibetan medicine production.

Yushu is one of the pasture areas in Qinghai. The altitude here is high and the geographical condition is extreme. The weather is cold and the level of oxygen is low (the temperature falls down to -20 to -30C during winter). The area is wide open and the shepherds are resided everywhere. The transport and communication is inconvenient that makes the flow of information very difficult. It is comparatively inconvenient for the shepherds if they need medical service. No matter how serious the illness, they need to travel a long way to see a doctor. That explains why Yushu has the most serious fatality rate. When they can’t find a doctor nearby, they are not able to cure in time. Because of delay, minor illness always becomes major illness, acute disease becomes chronic disease. Only when they can’t withstand the pain of the illness, they go to seek treatment from sizable and more equipped hospitals. But at that time it is always too late and the patients are almost at the edge of death.

Therefore, the disease death rate is very high and the average people’s life expectancy is relatively short. Even if they are seriously ill, they will not travel far to receive treatment from better equipped hospital because they are too poor. Their fate is to wait for the death to come in case of critical illness. Especially for the pregnant women in the pasture area, their treatment quality is much less than those living in the city. They don’t have pre-delivery inspection for their embryo. There is no professional opinion given to young women about the knowledge of birth delivery. They tend to give birth for their child at home so that the new born fatality rate for young mothers is very high. Even if the babies are born, they tend to die prematurely because of all kinds of hygienic problems.

To value health and treasure life are the basic needs of the human beings. Especially when we are socially advanced and materialistically rich, to live and the need for better quality of life have reached the highest point. However, in the remote pasture area, the Tibetans commonly lack of the awareness of life quality. Living in the area the living condition is tough and the medication is scarce. Especially in the area of medicine and hygiene, the condition is poor and the resource is inadequate. We hope we can compensate these areas through the successful promotion and implementation of this charity plan.

According to the analyst, there is unlimited development potential for Tibetan medicine and it will become a major asset in the medical hygienic development. The Tibetan medical resources in Yushu are rich and there are many Tibetan doctors trained in Thrangu Monastery. They make Tibetan medicine compound and they have traditional advantage to develop Tibetan medicine. Therefore, through the development and the exploitation of Tibetan medical resources, we hope the economy can be supplemented to alleviate the burden of the local people.

1.To build a clinic with basic medical facilities, to improve the medical conditions of the pastoral areas, to solve the problems of visiting a doctor and to provide convenient basic medical services.
2.To alleviate the burden of the civilians, to lower the fatality rate as much as possible and to enhance health and quality of life.
3.To build a Tibetan medicine factory with considerable quality level, to develop resources for Tibetan medicine, to change from resource advantage to economic advantage and to create conditions for the public to stay out of poverty as well as to increase employment.
